Artist's Statement
NCMy work is rooted in the enduring language of classic realism—a pursuit of truth found not in abstraction, but in the careful observation of the tangible world. Working primarily in oil paint and drawing, I engage in a slow, deliberate process that prioritizes craft, patience, and a deep respect for the traditions of representational art. For me, the act of painting or drawing is an exercise in seeing. I am drawn to the way light moves across a surface, the subtle shifts in value that define form, and the quiet dignity found in ordinary subjects. Whether working from life or reference, I strive to capture not merely the likeness of a thing, but its essence—the weight of a folded fabric, the warmth of skin, the stillness of a suspended moment. My materials are chosen for their history and reliability: oil paint for its depth and malleability, drawing media for their immediacy and intimacy. In an age of rapid image consumption, I believe in the power of slowness. Each piece is built through layers, both literal and metaphorical, allowing the work to emerge through a disciplined dialogue between observation and execution. This approach is not about nostalgia, but about a commitment to skill as a vessel for expression. Ultimately, my work seeks to offer a space for quiet contemplation. I hope to remind viewers of the beauty that exists in the familiar—the kind that reveals itself only when we take the time to truly look.
