Artist's Bio
Tricia Sauls is a Cary, North Carolina artist working primarily in oil and acrylic. Her paintings focus on small, often overlooked subjects, including fruit, insects, fishing flies, and everyday objects, rendered with expressive brushwork, rich color, and close attention to light and texture. She is especially drawn to intimate-scale paintings that invite the viewer to slow down and notice the character in ordinary things. Tricia’s work balances realism with a loose, painterly approach, allowing visible brushstrokes and imperfect edges to remain part of the finished piece. Her original paintings have been collected by buyers across the United States and are available through Sauls Collective and her online shop, Still & Drift. She lives in Cary with her husband, fellow artist Dean Sauls, 2 of her 3 young adult children, and their three rescue dogs.
Artist's Statement
My paintings explore the quiet beauty of ordinary moments that are often overlooked. Working primarily in oil, I create intimate studies of nature and familiar objects that invite viewers to slow down and notice the subtle relationships between light, color, and form. Rather than striving for photographic realism, I focus on atmosphere, mood, and the emotional resonance of everyday subjects. Whether painting a branch heavy with fruit, a solitary mushroom after the rain, a tiny ladybug crossing a blade of grass, or objects shaped by human experience, I am interested in transforming familiar moments into something worthy of a second look. Through expressive brushwork and careful observation, I aim to create paintings that feel both contemporary and timeless, celebrating the extraordinary found within the ordinary.
