Artist's Bio
For over a decade I freelanced with National Geographic, Discovery Channel, BBC, and The History Channel as a cinematographer and producer. In 2015, I co-founded The Invisible Lens and honed my skills in editing, writing script, storytelling, the Adobe Creative Cloud, and marketing on social media platforms. I have a passion for conservation and philanthropic filmmaking, and highlights of my work include a full-length documentary about the elusive species within Ethiopia's Bale Mountain National Park, a life history about NASA physicist, George Gloeckler and the pioneers of space at the time of the Voyager missions, a short documentary entitled "Voices of the Inside Passage" which was selected to the Colorado Environmental Film Festival, and a plethora of volunteer work with nonprofits across the country including Making Dreams Come True, Meadowlark Integrated Healing, The WildLife Act, Fair Trade Federation, NC ERA, Moms Demand Action, and NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence. I have been featured as a "trailblazing" female camera operator in the docu-reality world by Crew Connection and Production Hub and was fortunate enough to exhibit some of my travel and macro photography at the FM Fine Art Gallery in Los Angeles in 2016. This year, I was honored with an article in the Cary Magazine for their August issue and also had a photo essay featured in Philanthropy Journal.
Though the pandemic brought much loss, my silver lining was reinvention. I am now the sole owner of Susu Hauser Photography, a full-service video and photography company, and I am continuing to align myself with projects that bring about positive social change. Since founding my business, I have produced Dress for Success Triangle’s Women Making Change video, The American Kennel Club’s Patriotic Puppy Program promotional video, and digital campaigns and marketing materials for the Living Arts Collective, Sonda Yoga LLC, Photographers Without Borders, Multicolores, WEAVE - Women's Education for Advancement and Empowerment Foundation, OMBA Arts Trust, the Jonah Garson Campaign, and Nnenna Freelon's Great Grief Podcast. My passion project, The Art of Resilience, is a photographer's journey to the hearts and hands of indigenous artisans around the world, and will see its first incarnation as a multimedia exhibit showing this fall at the Durham Arts Guild Truist gallery.
I am a 200-hour certified yoga instructor, salsa dancer, west coast swing dancer, and tennis junkie. I dabble in wheel-thrown pottery and wire-wrapped jewelry, and I have a hidden passion for macro photography. I've filmed and photographed in 19 countries and 5 continents and now find my sanctuary in North Carolina with my pup, Kona.
I've honed my purpose - and that is to showcase transformation through the arts and elevate the lives and voices of women and girls around the globe.
Artist's Statement
My mother was a Hungarian refugee, and my father was a Superior Court judge who devoted over 20 years to domestic violence cases. You could say I have a heart for social justice and mindset that everyone, regardless of their starting line, should lead dignified and purposeful lives. I find my voice through my camera and storytelling platform. I believe women are the core of every community, and I have made a career of fighting for gender equality and social justice in my volunteer work with NC ERA, NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Moms Demand Action, Dress for Success and the ACLU.
Just as the social justice titan, Ruth Bader Ginsberg stated, “I wish to be remember as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the best of her ability and to help repair tears in her society.” Success to me is using my creative eye and platform to elevate lives around me.
