Artist's Bio
Sandra Belitza-Vazquez's spirit of adventure and curiosity about the world have taken her on a lifelong journey, exploring the human condition, discovering the endless beauty of nature, and understanding the awe-inspiring constructs of humanity that define our world. She has participated in over 100 solo and juried group art exhibits in the U.S. and Mexico. Her book on an indigenous dance festival, titled “Huey Atlixcayotl, Art of the Gaze,” was published by the office of the Secretary of Culture of the State of Puebla, Mexico, in 2023. “The Frissell Museum, Heritage, Legacy and Obscurity,” will be published in August by the office of the Secretary of Culture for the State of Oaxaca, and features over 150 of her photographs of the archaeological treasures of the Zapotec culture featured in the museum. Her exploration of nature and wildlife, and her continued interest in the world's cultures, have taken her on trips through Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe, as well as throughout the United States.
Artist's Statement
I view life as an adventure to be enjoyed and explored. It is my goal through my artwork to enable viewers to appreciate the world around them more fully, see the beauty in the ordinary, and recognize the need to conserve the wild to preserve the planet. Acknowledging and appreciating beauty helps us heal by filling us with joy.
