Artist's Bio
I grew up in a small town in central North Carolina surrounded by farms, lakes and forest. I spent most of my days outside getting lost in the woods, staring up at trees, sneaking up on wildlife, climbing rocks and jumping creeks. Nature was always a part of my life and being out in it will always be home to me. Even today my favorite thing to do is sit on a quiet beach or hike a mountain trail and just soak in the fresh air, the beautiful colors and all the sounds. I have always dabbled in art in one form or another. I was a professional photographer for over 10 years before I became a full time artist and I always sketched and painted for fun. It was not until a few years ago I decided to take the step of opening my small art business and sharing my passions with others. I am mostly a self taught artist, I have never had traditional instruction. I do however, occasionally look up tutorials if I am struggling with a technique or trying out a new medium. Other then that it’s a lot of trial and error. I am currently working with watercolors, acrylics, oil paints, pastels and charcoal pencils. As I continue to grow and learn I’m sure I’ll add other mediums to that list as well.
Artist's Statement
My current work explores the serene, quiet places in nature that we either don’t get the opportunity to witness or are so distracted with all the surrounding noise to look up and notice. I use primarily oil pants to showcase these fleeting moments and create a sense connection to the landscapes and the life that inhabits them. Inspired by a fellow oil painter and nature lover, Sarah McKendry, I aim to bring a little bit of this natural beauty and peace to the viewer. Each piece is a personal reflection of my love for nature, the longing to be immersed in it and the motivation to bring it into ordinary spaces."
