Artist's Bio
In high school, I wrestled with left brain/right brain direction in choosing an area to study. I remember trying to visualize the calculus formulas into drawings and paintings so that I might be able to remember them better. That’s when I chose to study art at Alfred University in upstate New York. Halfway through college, when my father asked how I was going to support myself, I changed course to use my left brain and study accounting and found gainful employment. After decades of working in corporate and small business settings doing everything from CFO roles to everything in a small business office, it was time to get back to my roots. Art called me from every meeting, email, and phone call. I have always had a home studio and worked on paintings, drawings, mixed media, printmaking and watercolor over the years, as time allowed. I gifted much of my work, and used it for our own personal collection. One day in 2025 I realized that ignoring all these yearnings was ignoring my true self. As a young child, sitting and drawing with crayons was one of my favorite things to do. Making things with my hands has always brought me joy. Creating something that brings smiles or wonder to others gives me a sense of accomplishment. So here I am, Rachel Pisciotta, Artist.
Artist's Statement
Life is full of beautiful moments, most of which are fleeting. My need to make art is born out of experiencing these moments of beauty and the desire to live in them longer than they last. Most often this is communicated through my paintings of land, sky, and plant life. I enjoy employing intense color combinations, stark contrasts of shadows, and enough detail to delight the eye and the brain of the viewer. At times, I may work with color combinations or some form of image that exists only in my imagination. My exploration of various subject matter has to do with the experience of the moment such as: peace, vastness, insignificance of humans, wonder of nature and science, power of nature, and sheer beauty.
