TIMILSINA

Paru Timilsina is an artist from Kathmandu, Nepal who explores the playful and intuitive side of the creative process. With no formal training, she has developed a personal approach rooted in spontaneity and storytelling. Working across acrylic, oil, pastel, and watercolor, Paru has made over 300 paintings. Her works have been exhibited at Srijana School of Fine Arts, Kathmandu, Nepal, and has been featured as cover illustrations for literary magazines. She is also a published poet and has worked in theater and broadcasting. Paru currently lives in Cary, North Carolina where she paints, writes poetry, and works as a translator.

I create acrylic paintings that explore the tension between colors. I am inspired by how our dreams and the natural world work together to shape our emotional memories. I see each color as a character in a play with its own characteristic energy, and I plot their movement and growth. I build up surfaces using layers of acrylic, and they become a backdrop for these characters. My painting process mirrors my interest in the fictional world, I aim to express the beauty of colors through storytelling. Like a writer shaping in a novel, I develop visual language through the work itself, letting ideas and forms emerge naturally rather than planning them. I believe play invites honesty, curiosity and surprise. I believe that art is an open ended process, more about discovery than destination.
