As a self-taught artist with a degree in mathematics, it is a great honor to be in the company of the highly talented artists of the Fine Arts League of Cary. I started with a children’s paint set, went on to library books, then to classes at the Raleigh city art centers, and finally workshops with nationally recognized artists. Painting has been both hobby and therapy.

Things from my childhood inspire me today. I remember the sun shining through my mother’s colored glass in the bay window. Even now, the sparkle of water droplets on a leaf, or the overlapping colors of my own glass collection, catch my eye. I remember a brief art lesson in elementary school that taught that yellow and blue make green, red and blue make purple, red and yellow make orange – an introduction to the color wheel. I was so excited by this, and now I get to feel that same excitement every time I paint.
