About My Art
I am an artist that seems to have many facets. I studied art, primarily painting at the University of New Mexico and then with the Art Institute of Southern California (now Laguna College of Art). I studied under various instructors that instilled an interest in light, color, texture and design.
I learned to look through a lens and fell in love with photography. I learned the old school methods in film photography before digital was a thing. I spent hours in the dark room manipulating images to get just the right print.
Next love, Raku Pottery. I learned to throw by a master potter by the name of Fred Wilson in Albuquerque NM. He taught me to be proud of my work and not stress if it blew up in the kiln, it's only clay.
I am primarily a photographer that found a way to embrace all that I've learned through encaustic painting. It allows me to put together a story, embellish my imagery with hot wax, color, texture and mark making that I have come to love.
I can be found with my camera often at places that I can be quiet and take in my surroundings and shoot scenes that are of interest to me. I want to show people that exploring a world through imagery can take them to other places they might not be able to go personally. A few examples of my photography and my photo encaustic paintings.
