Artist's Bio
Kimberly Gentry is a lifelong visual artist and writer from North Carolina. She was raised in a home where the arts were valued and celebrated. Attending classes and workshops, along with visits to galleries, working studios and museums, were commonplace and helped shape her creatively. Kimberly followed her writing talents into a career in journalism and public relations, including using her skills to support the publicity needs of nonprofits within the arts. Throughout life’s transitions, Kimberly never strayed from her passion for visual arts whether putting brush to canvas or capturing digital images. Kimberly currently enjoys embracing N.C.’s vibrant arts scene and all it provides to learn and grow; working as a freelance writer for local publications; volunteering with The Cary Theater; and combining her love of art, exploration, photography and writing in her blog, Take Note & Go.
Artist's Statement
At age 10, I bought my first pieces of art - two, tiny watercolor landscapes. The artist, appreciating my interest at such a young age, gave me two for the price of one. “Maybe someday you’ll grow up to be an artist,” she said. After a long pause, I stood a little taller and proudly proclaimed, “But, I already am.” Those watercolors hang on my wall today and whether crafting a feature story, solving a problem or exploring a new medium, they remind me to always embrace my creative side. I enjoy working with a variety of mediums but primarily work in acrylics, watercolors, graphite and charcoal. I also enjoy multimedia and craft. I’m particularly drawn to nature for inspiration, especially when exploring color and composition.
