After attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, Katie enjoyed an extensive career in footwear design leading her to travel throughout Asia, Europe, and the USA. Katie continues to explore materials through her experimental and abstract work in acrylic, oil, ink, and watercolor. “Inventive, bold, and fearless with paint is my true aim.” Katie is originally from the NY Tri-State area and now resides in Clayton NC right outside of Raleigh, a place that nurtures her need to create art.

Artist Statement Exploring abstract art and specifically alcohol inks, is a way to completely lose control of the compositional outcome and remain open to the spontaneous occurrences that occur within my work. My paintings are created by pouring alcohol ink and isopropyl alcohol onto the canvas. I then tip the canvas to help the alcohol slowly move across the canvas. Each layer is hand-dried with a heat gun or fan, before pouring another color and layer. This process gives my work movement and creates multiple transparent layers. It is a time-consuming and arduous process yet so rewarding. I am most alive when immersed in the creative process and feel a childlike joy when creating. My optimism, passion for humanity, and the continual desire to push boundaries are reflected in every aspect of my work. What inspires me? Most often I just roll up my sleeves, put some great music on, and get to work. Sometimes I am inspired by colors I see in fashion, interior design, or nature but most of the time I just go for it and experiment.
