Artist's Bio
Katy Rosenbaum is a contemporary mixed-media artist whose work explores the intersections of abstract expression, storytelling, and social commentary. Drawing inspiration from everyday moments, political landscapes, her insatiable curiosity about cultures, her 5 years living in Morocco, and global connections, Katy creates vibrant, layered pieces that invite viewers to pause and reflect. Her practice spans watercolor, abstract painting, gel plate printing, collage, typically in small-format works. Whether playful, poignant, or provocative, her art carries a sense of movement and curiosity, often weaving together color, texture, and symbolism to spark conversation. Based in Cary, North Carolina, Katy balances her creative pursuits with a career in international education and a full, joyful family life. Her pieces have found homes with collectors who appreciate art that feels both intimate and thought-provoking, with a style that is ever-evolving yet unmistakably her own.
Artist's Statement
My work is rooted in connection—between cultures, between people, between ideas that might not seem to touch until color, texture, and shape bring them together. I’m endlessly curious, a lifelong learner who sees art as a conversation that spans borders. Many of my pieces travel far beyond my studio through trades, becoming small tokens of shared experience in hands around the world; creating a global web of exchange and collaboration. I gravitate toward small-format, mixed-media works—watercolor, gel prints, collage—because they invite play, experimentation, and risk-taking without the pressure of permanence. Small works are accessible to all—easy to hold, easy to share, and easy on the wallet, because art is for all. Texture is my language: layered surfaces, imperfect edges, and the visible traces of process remind me that art, like connection, is never finished—it’s always becoming. For me, creating is joy, and joy is resistance. Every piece is a quiet act of defiance against cynicism and disconnection—a reminder that creativity is a bridge we can keep building together.
