About My Art

I have been a member of FALC for over twenty years, serving on the Board and showing in many art exhibits. I am also a member of Artspace where I have shown regularly in juried shows. In 2021, I created a three woman show for the NC Greenville Museum of Art which ran for three months. In 2014, I published a book about the life of the first curator of the NC Musuem of Art, titled, "Benjamin Williams, a short biography," which is available on Amazon. My work is in collections in Holland, South Africa and Israel and in the permanent collection of the Greenville Museum of Art.

In 2024, I received an art residency to work in Provence, France for five weeks.

I continue to teach part time in the community, most recently creating an instructional video for the NC Museum of Art which can be accessed on YouTube, as well as teaching in-person drawing at the Museum.

Artist's Statement
I enjoy painting abstracts, using strong saturated color. After a lifetime of teaching drawing and media, I enjoy the intellectual challenge of abstraction where the traditional elements of composition, color theory and value changes, work together to create a harmonious whole regardless of recognizable objects. For me, painting is like music: the sounds in music are like the colors and shapes in art. They can be emotionally charged and even narrative in nature, but are always open to interpretation. All my work is open to interpretation. As a painter, I let the work speak to me at a certain point, and guide me to a resolution which may or may not be how I started out. It is an intuitive process. informed by a lifetime of exploration, learning and practice. I believe that authentic art transcends politics and even time, to remain inspiring and uplifting to all.
