Starkey

Jenna Starkey was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and has been creating since she was a child. She studied at Indiana University Bloomington and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts, distinguished in Painting. She discovered her love for painting in college and pushes for bright colors and expressive brushstrokes. She moved to Raleigh with her partner after graduating. When she isn't exploring the town or a trail with him, she is playing with their cat daughter, Juniper.

I work across a range of mediums, including watercolor, oil paint, gouache, and charcoal. My work is characterized by vibrant color and dynamic compositions, often exploring both landscape subjects and imaginative scenes featuring figures or animals. In my oil paintings, I embrace a more expressive and gestural approach, while my watercolor work tends to reflect a greater level of precision and refinement. I am inspired by the ebb and flow of nature and its ever-changing beauty. I also am drawn to bright saturated colors. I try to retain and share the childlike view of the world, when colors seem much brighter and air feels fresh and new, reminding everyone we all have so much life to live and so many beautiful things ahead.
