Jeff

McEntire

Jeff was born in Boone, North Carolina. He found a passion for art at a very young age and pursued it throughout his school years, winning numerous awards for his work. Following high school graduation, Jeff was invited to apprentice with internationally known fresco painter, Ben Long, and soon after, was accepted to The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. After returning to Boone, Jeff's focus shifted to other studies at Appalachian State University as making a living took precedence. For most of the years that followed, Jeff balanced what became a career in technology with his love of art and continued to produce and show work. In 2020, Jeff decided to leave the business world to pursue art full time. Jeff’s work has been shown in various galleries in North Carolina and is in numerous private collections, including that of the North Carolina Governor’s Mansion. Jeff lives with his wife, Jen, in Durham, North Carolina and is a member of the Yadkin Arts Council and the Durham Art Guild. Jeff’s work can be seen on his website; www.jeffmcentireart.com.

I have always been captivated by the beauty of the landscape, in all its forms and seasons. I particularly love the magical moments when sunlight on the landscape transforms otherwise ordinary places into vibrant compositions of shape, line, and color, ripe for painting. I have spent most of my life traveling backroads and byways with a camera and sketchpad, searching for those fleeting scenes that inspire me, and working in my studio to capture them. In my work, I strive to convey the elusive qualities of light and atmosphere on the landscape, through subtle layering of colors, in order to give viewers a richer sense of being there. Each piece has its own personality, with its own challenges, and there are few things as gratifying as overcoming those challenges and bringing something meaningful to life from a blank page.
