About My Art

Creating art out of found materials aligns with the idea that everything can have a “second life” if we give it one. That is the basis for the art that I create. I also search for beauty through art-making, pushing each piece until it garners an emotional response.

Artist's Statement
Having a career as a designer for the last 30 years, my interest in creating art has always been there but was never the top priority. During the pandemic, like many creatives, I had ample time to spend at home. Before long I found myself enjoying the days, engaged in making art. It became a welcome relief in a time of great stress. I pulled out my cache of saved "materials” and got busy experimenting. Today I am still enthralled with the process of creating with upcycled materials, especially polystyrene and packing papers of all sorts. To me, torn paper is a perfect collage material. It allows me to experiment with mixed media elements and is very forgiving when I work wet on wet. The outcome has led me down a path of discovery, embracing the method by which an object with one use is transformed into an object with an alternative use and value. Additionally, I get great personal satisfaction knowing that pieces of polystyrene (styrofoam) have not entered the waste stream.
