Ashley

Elliott

After being diagnosed with a rare genetic condition, Ashley Elliott turned to art as a source of therapy, self-discovery and expression. Although not a classically trained artist, Ashley loved taking art classes through her years of education and would squeeze in art classes whenever possible. As an advocate of self-improvement and continued education, she seeks to improve and hone her craft through continuing to take art classes. Ashley first experimented in painting with oil paints, but quickly moved to acrylic as her medium of choice after she had children and needed something that dried quickly. Since then, Ashley has also experimented in mixed media and loves the exploration that mixed media collage offers in turning one thing into something new.

I am a painter and mixed media artist who loves to explore the relationship between color and form. My work is a mixture of abstraction and representation and is heavily influenced by my educational background in earth science and my love of nature. My methods vary, from pure acrylic on canvas, to mixing in elements of paper from various sources into acrylic paintings, to collaged papers on canvas board or wooden panels with some acrylic embellishments. My goal is to create a sense of the playful energy between color and form and to invite the viewer to reflect on their own experiences with wonder and awe of the natural world that surrounds us.
