Hodgetts

Darlene Hodgetts is an oil painter recently relocated from Los Angeles to Cary, North Carolina.A current member of the Los Angeles-based Roofless Painters, Darlene studied under artist Julio Panisello, developing a signature style defined by expressive, loose brushwork. Her portfolio spans portraits, landscapes, and everyday subjects, with works held in private collections across California and the East Coast.

My work is an exploration of the emotional weight carried by the world around us—whether in the form of a petal, the gaze of a portrait, or the quiet prince of a household object. Painting with a loose, intuitive brush,I move beyond strict representation to capture the raw energy and mood of a moment. My goal is not to document what I see, but to provoke a visceral, felt reaction from the viewer, inviting them to connect with the flickering transition between the subject and the paint itself.
