Charity L Hodgin is a self-taught mixed media artist living and working in Cary, North Carolina. Her work is deeply inspired by regional landscapes, local wildlife and rural heritage, as well as the diverse environments she encounters through travel. Centered on the interplay of permanence and change, memory and discovery, her layered pieces celebrate the enduring beauty of the natural world. Hodgin translates her experiences into visual stories, capturing the quiet narratives that connect people to both native homes and new horizons. She actively exhibits her work in galleries and festivals throughout the region.

Living in Cary, North Carolina, I draw inspiration from the landscapes, wildlife and rural heritage that surround me, as well as the places I encounter through travel. Working in mixed media, I am especially drawn to birds, flowers, coastal scened, and weathered barns and abandoned homes that quietly mark the passage of time. I also create mixed media sketches inspired by landscapes and locations discovered along my journeys, capturing moments that evoke a sense of connection, curiosity and place. My work explores the relationship between nature, memory and the environments we inhabit. Whether depicting a shorebird along the North Carolina coast, a bloom at the hight of its season, a distant landscape, or a forgotten structure slowly being reclaimed by nature, I am drawn to the interplay of permanence and change, memory and discovery. Through layered textures and materials, I seek to convey a sense of history and invite viewers to pause, reflect and find meaning in the stories embedded within the landscape. Ultimately, my work celebrates both the enduring beauty of the natural world and the memories, experiences and quiet stories that connect us to the places we call home and the places we discover along the way.
