Artist's Bio
Charlene Dismuke’s artistic journey began in childhood and was fortified by a scholarship to the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts and a degree in Graphic Design. After a successful career that included owning her own graphic design and digital printing company, she relocated to North Carolina. It was here that she found the opportunity to finally dedicate herself to becoming the fine artist she hadn’t been able to be during her years as a graphic designer. Now based in North Carolina, Charlene creates a diverse range of commissioned works, from animal portraits to floral compositions. She also shares her expertise by teaching watercolor, acrylic, and drawing for individuals in 55+ communities throughout the Raleigh area. In her classes, she creates a supportive learning environment, customizing her curriculum to help students develop their artistic voices. As she teaches, Charlene continues to hone her craft and develop her fine art platform, “Love Notes,” with the hope that her journey will inspire others to pursue their creative dreams.
Artist's Statement
My artistic journey began with a profound admiration for the powerful yet graceful beauty of horses. This early inspiration blossomed into a lifelong dedication, marked by scholastic achievements during my formative years and formal training at a commercial art school. There, I refined my skills in graphic design, gaining a strong foundation in composition, color theory, and visual communication—principles now essential to my creative work. While I’ve traditionally focused on floral and botanical-themed watercolor, my artistic scope has broadened substantially as I embrace new challenges beyond conventional boundaries. Today, as a full-time fine artist, I’m developing my distinct style to produce artwork that is both evocative and narrative, with a determination to capture the essence of nature and humankind with emotion and a sense of story. Through intricate details and a vibrant palette, I aim to reveal not only nature’s hidden narratives but also to allude to deeper societal, cultural, and environmental truths. My goal is to invite viewers to connect with the inherent beauty, subtle drama, and profound undercurrents of the world around us. With bolder lines and brushstrokes, I accentuate the deep connection I feel to these subjects, transforming them from mere images into windows to deeper emotional and societal truth.
