I retired from a career in the sciences and now find great joy in immersing myself in color and creative ideas. I am most drawn to painting plants, birds, and other creatures in natural environments, especially when they are in motion or exhibiting natural behavior. I also enjoy creating tableaus that remind friends and family of shared moments and good times. Most of my work is done in the studio using my own photographs as reference. My first teachers were my daughter, local illustrator and artist April Dukes, and Beth Craddock-Smith, who introduced me to watercolor. I now primarily work in oils, a medium I took up while studying with Kelly Oakes.
