Artist's Bio
With a deep passion for textiles and a love for all things handmade Kate Rachel Lozier creates stunning fiber art pieces that blend traditional techniques with modern designs. Ms. Lozier draws inspiration from nature in each of her works. Each one of Ms. Lozier’s work is not only one of a kind but is a beautiful representation of her connection to the natural and mystical world. While Ms. Lozier is generally a self-taught fiber artist, she had sewing, embroidery, and drawing classes throughout her life. As a child she drew her objects to embroider by hand and made pictures and pillows. She learned to sew clothing but did not enjoy this but preferred making things from scratch. As a teenager Ms. Lozier was taught how to quill. From here she has created some thought-provoking pieces using the scroll work paper. Once Ms. Lozier moved to North Carolina 6 years ago from New York, she became a true master of textile manipulation. She incorporates a range of techniques (sewing, quilting, drawing, embroidery, adding a variety of embellishments) to create one-of-a-kind fiber art pieces. Ms. Lozier’s use of bold colors and textures adds depth and dimension to her work making it truly stand out in the world of fiber art.
Artist's Statement
I have always been drawn to color and I really enjoy using a variety of colors in my fiber artwork. I enjoy using fiber related media that adds variety and texture to the work. As I am creating a piece I start with a vision and often a brief sketch. I never know how the piece is going to turn out until I declare it finished! I love making pieces based on nature and all its beautiful colors, as I gather inspiration from these. I express my feelings with my work. I take pleasure in using my favorite fibers and related sewing media to create a piece: batik fabric, mother of pearl buttons and objects, and glass beads are some of my favorite media. My favorite techniques are hand and machine quilting, trapunto, hand embroidery, and hand embellishments. These media and techniques help me create my work. I create Judaica in my work, and I also love to depict nature. I want to evoke interest, awe, conversation, and a range of emotions when people view my work. I have designed many Judaica wearables, goods for Jewish Holidays, and unique pieces of art. As a self-taught fiber artist, my work is a celebration of the intricate and transformative power of textiles. Specializing in quilting and trapunto, I weave together layers of fabric, texture, and color to create pieces that tell stories and evoke emotion. My artistic journey is deeply rooted in a passion for mixed media, where I explore the interplay of traditional sewing techniques and contemporary embellishments. Each stitch and sketch reflect my commitment to craftsmanship and innovation, inviting viewers to appreciate the tactile beauty and tactile intimacy of fiber art. Through my creations, I aim to inspire a deeper connection to the materials we often overlook, reminding us of the beauty found in the everyday.
