Wood_Biography Jennifer Wood is a mural artist of 28+ years, starting her career in 1994 in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area. She moved to Scottsdale, AZ in 1996 where, in addition to mural painting, she was contracted for piece work by Phoenix Art Press, teaching her watercolor techniques thus broadening her skill set. Wood relocated to Wake County, North Carolina in 2000 and has continued to paint for businesses, schools, builders, homeowners, etc. Approximately 2009-2010, she started working with The United Arts Council of Wake County leading muraling residencies for the Wake County Public School System. Wood has continued to collaborate with students wishing to leave a lasting-and colorful-legacy behind. Jennifer Wood enjoys the uniquely interactive nature and access of murals. As one form of public art, they are designed for the viewer not the individual artist; they are the ‘art’ that can reflect a community’s diverse values and interests, uplift, inspire, and highlight its people, however humble they may seem. Wood will paint as long as she is able for the thrill of how amazing it is that ‘a little bit of color on a wall can change everything.’

Wood_ Artist’s Statement Art, “…the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects ” (Merriam-Webster) Jennifer Wood paints murals; she employs the principles of design—color, shape, texture, space, form—to transform walls from ennui to awe for 28+ years. Her work is interactive, as it automatically becomes a part of the space itself; it can be physically touched and viewed from multiple perspectives. Murals are unilaterally accessible and individually interpreted; they become a piece of the mosaic that reflects a community-- a permanent part of the landscape. Jennifer Wood believes art can unite and uplift.
