About the event
Portrait drawing can seem like a challenging skill to learn. Every face is unique, and capturing a likeness on paper can be daunting. Join artist Gio Argentati as he walks us through a step-by-step process for drawing a realistic yet expressive portrait from a live model. Gio will explain how to establish proportions, place features accurately, and create the illusion of three dimensionality by using value. For the demo, Gio will draw a portrait using soft charcoal and white chalk on blue-tinted paper.
Gio is a classically trained artist who has been drawing portraits for more than 20 years. He studied classical drawing and painting with artist Robert Liberace and landscape painting with artist Rich Nelson. Gio paints in both classical and modern impressionistic styles. His preferred subjects are landscapes, birds, and people. Gio paints with oil paint and draws with charcoal and red chalk.
