Kim Werfel

My work is painting custom pastel portraits of people and pets.  They are for people looking for a way to honor, respect and preserve the beauty, soul and memory of a person through artwork that can become a treasured heirloom for years to come.

I have a BFA in Advertising Design from NYIT, Old Westbury, NY and a MS in Art Education from LIU, CWPost Campus, Brookville, NY.  After working at Time Magazine in Advertising Production in NYC for about 9 years I switched careers, married and moved to "the country," NC,  to teach art in both public and private schools from 1994 to 2003.  I have also taught privately and at Jordan Hall Art Center.  After taking a pastel workshop with Barbara Gill, my interest in pastel portraits peaked and I have been hooked on the medium and subject matter ever since.  I have studied with Luanna Winner and have taken workshops with Doug Dawson, Diane Johnson and Christina Debarry and other artists locally.  I am currently taking private lessons from Barbara Gill.

I love the challenge of trying to capture a person's essence and spirit through art and think this pursuit will always fulfill me.
