Charlotte Barrows Stanek

Presently I’m working in oils but I love pastels, especially for portraits and figures which are my favorite to paint. I love watercolor and charcoal also, and occasionally paint in acrylics.

Photography has been one of my passions since I bought my first Brownie camera when I was 13 years old. I use a lot of my photos for my paintings. I’m a "people person" and I’m fascinated with faces and figures and I’ve used several photos from our trips for painting as well as using our 4 kids and our little grandchildren as subjects.

I was born in upstate New York and we moved to Boca Raton in ‘75 where I was so lucky to discover and study oil painting with Arthur Sarnoff and later Jack Wittrup and William Starke.  I painted on clothing in acrylic for two upscale shops in Boca and I taught classes in calligraphy and painting on fabric at the senior center and in adult education at two schools.

After we moved to Raleigh in ‘88 I fell in love with pastels when I studied with Luanna Winner. I studied watercolors with Neil Watson and took workshops at Springmaid in Myrtle Beach and a few workshops through Jerry’s Artarama. I’m a member of FALC and Sertoma Art Center.
