
Working in acrylic, Marvin paints landscapes and cityscapes -- drawing upon scenes from his native Montana, his trips across the United States, and his extensive international travels.

Educated at Dartmouth College and Northwestern University, Marvin is a professor emeritus of global and environmental studies at North Carolina State University. His paintings capture the diversity of America’s landscapes, including the mountain scenery of the Big Sky country of Montana, the vast open spaces and weathered homesteads of the Great Plains, the picturesque farms and villages of New England, and the old farmhouses and churches of rural North Carolina. His international collection includes scenes drawn from his extensive travels in Scandinavia, eastern and western Europe, Russia, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
The artist has shown his paintings in individual and group exhibitions in the Raleigh/Cary area. Among his individual exhibitions are shows at the Raleigh Municipal Building (sponsored by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission) and at the E.P. Sauls Gallery at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC. He has been a frequent prize winner at the North Carolina State Fair, including a Commissioner’s Purchase Award. His paintings have been shown in galleries in Raleigh; Omaha, Nebraska; Cody, Wyoming; and Missoula, Montana.
