David Oakley

I am a landscape painter focused on capturing North Carolina scenes in oils. My love of nature, landscapes, and structures are reflected in my paintings. I enjoy capturing the remarkable color effects and beauty of old houses, barns, and structures that have aged and weathered over time in simple rural settings.

I am a Raleigh native and am currently working full time as a senior manager at Applied Research Associates, Inc., a research and engineering firm. I have been painting landscapes in my spare time since May of 2007.

I have always had a passion for drawing and painting, and was a prolific artist from a very young age up through high school. I then focused my art abilities in the discipline of mechanical engineering, with an emphasis on technical drawing. Time constraints from a career as a full time research engineer and later senior manager limited my art interests to photography, however I never lost my love of drawing and painting. In 2007 I decided to take up painting again.

I have benefited from workshop classes from Leslie Pruneau, Nicole Kennedy, Judy Crane, and Sean Dye, and I am continuing to seek additional opportunities to learn from accomplished artists.
