Sarah Mantel

Non-objective in nature, Sarah’s works are expressions of her inner most feelings and thoughts about everyday existence.

Artist Profile

Sarah was born in Salisbury, NC, where she spent her childhood and college years.  After graduating from Catawba College with honors, she went on to graduate school at Vanderbilt University to study French. Different teaching and job positions have taken her to Bowling Green, KY; Neuchâtel, Switzerland;  Richmond, VA; Atlanta, GA; Phoenix, AZ; and Los Angeles, CA.  She lived in Los Angeles for twenty years, and upon retirement from their own business, she and her husband made a decision to settle in Cary, NC., returning to her roots, so to speak.

Since childhood, Sarah has had a natural artistic gift. She first began studying art formally when she moved to Los Angeles, fulfilling a lifetime dream and passion. The process of painting, she says, enables her to have a better understanding of and a sensitivity to the world in which we live and how we associate with it. She finds her inspiration for painting everywhere. Some themes or ideas are related to her extensive world travels, some to the natural world. Other ideas may spring from poetry or passages of music, while some creations are sheer products of the imagination. Her goal is to pique viewers’ curiosity and interest in such a way that allows them to bring their own interpretations and meaning to the work.
