Doris Jones Buchanan

An experienced artist who enjoys a variety of media and subject matter; drawing, printmaking, watercolor and acrylics, with emphasis on color relationships and textural surfaces to depict strong design elements for both objective and non-objective abstract painting. The work is usually a spontaneous expression and reaction to what comes forth as I compose the painting.

I was born in Raleigh, but I have lived in Cary, N.C. most of my life.  We built our home in the original downtown in the fifties.  I graduated from Cary High School, attended Meredith College and a local art school in Raleigh; Ferree School of Art.  My career was as an advertising director and illustrator for fashion stores in Raleigh.

I continued my education studying with my mentor: the late Prof. Joseph Cox, School of Design, N. C. State University.  Also I took classes with Ben Williams; former curator for the N.C. Museum of Art and other notable nationally known artists.

My studies continue because I feel it very important to continue experiencing the exciting world of Art.
