This show is FALC's major event of the year, and it will be on display at the Hope
Community Church, 821 Buck Jones Road, Raleigh, NC 27606 from
April 25 through June 14, 2008. The Award Winners were announced and
their awards, totaling over $7000, were presented at the well attended Show Reception on
Friday evening, April 25 at the church. The exhibit was juried from actual
two and
three-dimensional original works of art, entirely the work of a single
artist and executed within the last two years. 193 artists
entered 495 pieces, and 111 works by 89 artists were were selected by the juror, Gina Cavallo
Collins of Hanover, VA. Some of the show artwork can be viewed via this Artwork Slide Show.

This
show would not be possible without the support of our generous
sponsors, listed in the poster above. A host of FALC member
volunteers who assisted the Show Chair Kathryn Cook in producing receiving and hanging the show. Thanks to all who helped make the
show a success.
A gathering of works in all types of media is a joy to jury. Though it would be easy to feel that you're pitting a porcelain jar against an oil painting, I don't see it that way at all. For me, the visible yet indefinable window to the artist's spirit is what I react to - not to the medium itself. I can see the creative drive in a turned wood bowl as much as a delicate watercolor. The passion has to be there, the quality of technique, no matter what the technique, has to show.
The
talents of all the artists who submitted were evident and made the
selection process a challenge. The works in this exhibition
represent the creative spirit on many levles, in many forms, and with
many voices. It is my hope that each of us finds that creative
spirit within ourselves and seeks an outlet in whatever media suits you.
